Hi friends! I’ve been really into podcasts and YouTube lately so I haven’t really been watching any TV shows. However, I have a Hulu account I share with my friends so I thought I’d start putting together my watch list on there. None of these images are mine, links to original content are in the image captions.
Here’s what’s on my Watchlist so far:
Guy’s Grocery Games
Listen. I don’t watch TV to think. I watch TV for relaxing, and that’s what this show does for me. It’s fun to watch people run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to find things in a grocery store they’ve never been in before. Plus, they often donate the prize money to charities. If you like silly shows, you’d like this.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
I’ve already seen several seasons of this, I’m just going to continue watching it on Hulu. I would highly recommend it. It’s a good, hard hitting show, highly progressive for when it came out. It’s culturally relevant to this day (even if some episodes don’t age well, others age exceptionally well). Also, some of the most iconic Star Trek villains, which are often knocked off or referenced in other media, come from this series. Also also, baby Wil Wheaton and young Sir Patrick Stewart and Whoopi Goldberg.
Star Trek: Voyager
Janeway! I haven’t seen any episodes of this yet, but I know the Captain from this iteration is played by Red from Orange is the New Black, and I loved her in that. Once I finish Next Gen I’ll turn to this. Might take me a while since Next Gen can burn me out pretty quickly (I really can’t binge watch it. It’s heavy).
Brooklyn Nine-Nine
I’m already a fan of this show, I’m just a season behind. If you’re on the fence about watching this, please do. It’s an ensemble comedy with a diverse, extremely funny cast. If you’re worried about it being about/glorifying cops, don’t be. It covers issues such as police brutality and the prison system in a funny (doesn’t bum you out too much) but still meaningful way.
Also, there’s a couple who actually has a very healthy onscreen relationship instead of the usual “on again-off again” trope often used in comedies (see: Scrubs with JD and Elliot). Plus! In addition! A gay couple, ALSO in a healthy, loving, long-term relationship! It’s amazing how rarely TV shows show EMOTIONALLY HEALTHY couples.
Also, everything Gina says is gold.
Anyways, please watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
If I haven’t convinced you yet, please watch this video.
Agent Carter
I definitely should have supported this while it was live with my cable ratings or whatever, but I was in college and always too busy to watch anything live besides The Walking Dead. Unrelated: wouldn’t recommend the Walking Dead. Anywhoo, if you’re into Marvel at all, you’ve probably seen Captain America: The First Avenger, where you met Agent Carter, a very badass secret agent played by Haley Atwell. Apparently a lot of this show is just “woman tries to get things done while incompetent men tell her she can’t because she’s a woman”, as it takes place in the 40’s, so I’ll probably be watching it sporadically (I tend to get very frustrated watching stuff like that). You also get to meet Tony Stark’s father and the original JARVIS in this series, which is fun.
Master Chef & Kitchen Nightmares
I’ve been admiring Gordon Ramsay from afar for a while. From what I hear, he tells very incompetent adults to get their act together and how to run a ding-dang restaurant and he tells very competent children how smart and special they are. Time to see what all the fuss is about.
The Orville
Back to SciFi. I’ve heard good things about this series. I don’t remember what specifically I heard, but I remember it was Travis McElroy telling me it was good via podcast. I trust him with my life, so why not my TV choices?
Bob’s Burgers
Another rare show that shows healthy relationships! Amazing! I love this show. The fact that the guy that voices Archer also voices Bob is hilarious to me. It’s very funny yet gentle on the soul. I’m a season or two behind so I’ll be catching up. If you’re looking for a low stakes comedy with very little cringe/secondhand embarrassment, I’d highly highly recommend this.
Face Off
This is a competition show for stage/movie makeup! I watch this sometimes with my friend via Rabb.it and I’m a big fan. I love watching people who are excellent at what they do showcase their art, and that’s exactly what this is.
This image is from the one season I’ve watched and it’s one of my favorite makeups I’ve seen. The face light actually lights up and it’s “awesome, bitchin’, and groovy”.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Due to the fact that I am too lazy to be going to the library every ten seconds to get another manga, I will be watching this instead of reading it. I know I said I’d read it. But too bad.
Arrival
I’ve been told this is a good movie and it has one of my favorite actors and biggest crushes, Amy Adams, in the lead role. Here for it.
Thanks for reading! What’s on your Watchlist?
Take care of yourself!
